TAMPINES Rovers are through to the Round of 16 in the AFC Cup after beating Victory SC of Maldives 4-0 in their penultimate Group G clash at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Tuesday evening.
A brace from veteran striker Aleksandar Duric, along with strikes from Shahdan Sulaiman and Ahmad Latiff Khamaruddin sealed the three points for the Stags in front of a crowd of 876.
Tampines are currently second in the group, level with Thailand's Muangthong United on 11 points from five games but with a weaker goal difference. Vietnam's Hanoi T & T lie in third place with five points while Victory remain without a point.
The top two teams from each group progress to the knockout phase, with the group winners having the advantage of playing their Round of 16 tie at home. Only the quarter-finals and semi-finals are played over two legs.
Tampines will face Muangthong, who are the Thai Premier League champions, in their final group game in the Nonthaburi province next Tuesday. The Stags, in their first AFC Cup appearance since 2007, will need all three points to finish on top of their group.
