Hines Ward

NFL star Hines Ward was ordered out of a car at gunpoint and handcuffed early Thursday by Los Angeles police who mistakenly thought the car in which he was a passenger was stolen.
Ward's friend, who was driving, had failed to tell police she had recovered her car after reporting it stolen last month, a police official said.
A police officer who spotted the car in the Studio City area of Los Angeles ran a computer check on the car's license plate, according to Sgt. Maria Morrison, the commander of the LAPD's North Hollywood Division. When the officer was informed the vehicle had been reported stolen, he stopped the car.
Both Hines and his female friend, who was not named by police, were handcuffed until police could verify that she owned the car, Morrison said.
The woman explained to police that she filed the stolen car report on April 22 after a "miscommunication" over where it had been parked by a valet, Morrison said. She failed to tell police after she found the car, she said.
Hines, a Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, is in Los Angeles to compete on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars."
