Stargate Universe

Stargate Universe
After just two short seasons, The Vancouver Sun reports that "Stargate Universe," the newest series in the massively popular "Stargate" sci fi franchise, has received the proverbial axe, effectively cutting off the franchise completely for the first time since it began as "Stargate SG-1" in 1997.
The original Stargate SG-1 dawned in 1997. To give you an idea of how long ago that was, the most-watched shows on TV that year were Seinfeld, ER, Friends, Home Improvement and Touched by an Angel. In the end, Stargate SG-1 lasted 10 seasons -- a full decade -- and in 2004 spun off the companion series Stargate Atlantis, which itself lasted five seasons.
The future looks bleak for "Stargate," but maybe they'll be able to eke out another movie or two before it's lights out.

Lonely Island

As far as Saturday Night Live staffers go, The Lonely Island kick some pretty ill rhymes. The three-headed monster that is Akiva Schaffer, Jorma Taccone and Andy Samberg, the crew’s biggest star, split the difference between the Marx Brothers and The Beastie Boys and, on Turtleneck & Chain, their second full-length record, they feel like they may have perfected the cocktail.
“We were always focused on brevity, but now that’s become like an obsession because if a joke’s stupid, at least it’s guaranteed to be short,” one of the guys says on an anarchic speaker phone conversation that makes it impossible to distinguish who’s who.
“A comedy song really has no business being longer than about two and a half minutes,” says someone who’s a member of The Lonely Island. “With a comedy record, that’s about as much as the audience can stand.”
The troupe has been performing together since they got their first laugh at their Berkeley, Calif., junior high school. Lifelong music fans, parody raps became their calling card and, in 2005, they made a much-admired video for the rap song Ka-Blamo! The clip earned them a job writing for MTV and, when it was seen by Jimmy Fallon, led to a mentor who would take them to Lorne Michaels and the Saturday Night Live writing room.
“Saturday Night Live gave us a venue to launch things from,” a Lonely Islander says.
“It did more than that,” responds another. “It was our first real job.”
At the time, the internet was becoming an essential marketing tool for even (or, perhaps, especially) the most established shows on TV. The Lonely Island quickly made good on their opportunity. Their digital short Lazy Sunday introduced them to the world.
“That right there is the difference in our lives,” says a member of The Lonely Island, and it would be an introduction that the group wouldn’t let be short-lived. FollowingLazy Sunday, they expanded their repertoire to include celebrities, and their next breakout video clip was Dick in a Box, featuring Justin Timberlake, which won an Emmy Award (and has been viewed on YouTube more than 26 million times).
“Cross-pollination really works with what we do because it places our music in the real world,” says a Lonely Islander, who mentions their influences range from Will Smith to Steve Martin to The Smothers Brothers to Raekwon the Chef.
“It’s just so much funnier to have Akon say, ‘A woman let me put my penis inside of her,’ than to hear it from one us,” says a member of the group.
“Yeah, from us, it’s expected,” someone else says. “From Akon, you never know.”
The new disc features unexpected turns from Snoop Dogg, John Waters, a red-hot Michael Bolton, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj. There are already nine videos that the friends shot for their album — in addition to rapping and writing, they also direct their own work, something they transferred to the large screen in the 2007 film Hot Rod — but they’re equally proud of a page taken from the De La Soul records of the early-’90s: the skit.
“We really like the old-timey stuff you hear on the old radio shows,” a Lonely Islander says.
“Yeah, there’s stuff on this record that you’d never hear on Saturday Night Live,” adds another. “We try to remind ourselves that the reason we’re doing this is to have fun goofing around.”
“Of course,” says another member of The Lonely Island: “We also want to get paid.”

Michael Bolton

Just call Michael Bolton the new Captain Jack Sparrow, jester of Tortuga. He made his debut as the kohl-eyed pirate over the weekend on the " 'Saturday Night Live' Digital Short" with Andy Samberg and the guys from Lonely Island.
The episode, hosted by Tina Fey and featuring the return of her Sarah Palin character, marked 20 years since Bolton had been on the show. He was a musical guest in 1991 and appeared in the "We Are the World" spoof called "Musicians for Free Range Chickens."
This time, he hit the studio with a "big, sexy hook" for the trio's newest song, but as it turns out, Bolton is a major cinephile. (Keira Knightley!) He also makes for a fantastic "Pirate of the Caribbean," Forrest Gump, Erin Brockovich and Tony Montana. Look out, Johnny Depp.
"Working with Andy, Akiva and Jorma on the Jack Sparrow digital short was one of the highlights of my career and most memorable experiences of my life," Bolton wrote on his website. "For the few people on the planet who might not know, these guys are brilliant, funny and beyond super talented. They made me do things I never would have expected to be comfortable with and I'm so glad I did. Truly grateful to be a part of this project and CANNOT WAIT for the chance to work with the guys again."
We can't either. Watch the clip above and tell us what your favorite part was in comments.
In the meantime, his 21st studio album, "Gems –- The Duets Collection," is out June 21.

Saturday Night Live

“Saturday Night Live” hit the nail on the head this past weekend with its Bobby Moynihan caricature of Newt Gingrich. Asked for opening comments, Newt stated simply: “I love the ‘90s.”
So it seems fitting that the news of his impending presidential candidacy surfaces just as MTV isreturning to showing music videos — well, after midnight on Sundays, anyway. Yes, the ‘90s are back, with reinforcements! I’ve seen people marching around in Keds. I could have sworn the other day that I passed someone in shortalls, but it might just have been some sort of hideous side effect of a medication I was taking. We’re all suddenly awash in misplaced nostalgia for an era when the Internet was a mystical place where you could sell anything to anyone, using sock puppets, and no one knew what the meaning of “is” was.
We’re all about retro, these days. The GOP slate looks like a roster of “Then That’s What We Called Presidential Candidates.” Everyone feels vaguely dated. Romney? 2007! Palin? 2010. Jimmy McMillan? 1868! And those are just the ones with enough name recognition to merit a parody on “SNL.” Trump is the only one with any reviving freshness, and that’s odd, because it looks like someone just embalmed him. For Romney and Palin, it’s increasingly looking like the ship has sailed. When you’re just out of style, you’re dead in the water.
But Newt Gingrich is so out that maybe he’s come back into fashion — like polyester, or those weird gelatin shoes.
So I’m a little concerned about the news that he will announce that he is running for president on Wednesday – via Facebook and Twitter.
I know Newt has millions of followers — more than, say, Palin. But Palin arose in the era of social communications! We’re used to her tweets and their bizarre neologistic logic. But try as he may, Newt still seems too much like that lady from your mother’s book club who tries to become your Facebook friend. You want to pat him on the hand and offer him a pager. If this were a sci-fi movie, someone would show up, tap him on the shoulder, and gently insist that he return to his own time.
And maybe that wouldn’t be such a bad thing. There were many things about the ‘90s that seem nice in retrospect. There was the prosperity! There was the music, which sounded as though it were being piped down from a pleather-upholstered spaceship. There was the hinky old dial-up Internet. There were exposed midriffs and flared jeans. There was all the technology we thought was cutting-edge that turned out to be silly, slow and instantly dated.
And that’s where the Newt conundrum comes in.
Newt is like a mobile phone: bulky, oddly endearing, and in the ‘90s, we thought it was The Last Word in Everything.
Sure, it’s updated. It’s on all the networks. But I don’t care how many expansion packs you get or upgrades you impose on it — it’s still the same old device. You wouldn’t use one to Tweet or Facebook unless you didn’t really understand the concept.
So stop trying to pretend you’re hip and relevant, Newt! It’s almost embarrassing. You have only 124,419 Facebook fans, at the time of writing! That compares unfavorably with the number of people who belong to the page for Telling Sarah Palin She’s Full Of Crap! Why go there?
You need to embrace the source of your appeal: You’re vintage! You’re the ‘90s model, the Hamster Dance of Politics. If you said that you were announcing via mix CD from the set of “TRL” that you were running for president, I bet you’d see a bump.

Meredith Vieira

Following weeks of speculation, Meredith Vieira has confirmed she is quitting NBC's Today after five years.
The 57-year-old fought back tears as she made the announcement on the show this morning, saying she wanted to spend more time with her family.
Ms Vieira will step down in June, when she will be replaced as co-anchor by colleague Ann Curry.
She said: 'This is a difficult day for me. I'm going to try to hold myself together here.
'Even as I say this and I know that it's the right thing, I'm really sad, because for the past - I'd like to say ten years, but it's only five - this has been by second home.'
Her departure was first rumoured in April, soon after her predecessor, Katie Couric, revealed she was planning to leave CBS.
Ms Vieira was said to have been tired of the early-morning starts, and wanted to spend more time caring for her husband, author Richard M Cohen, who has fought multiple sclerosis and colon cancer.
This morning she told viewers she had made the decision after 'after months of personal reflection and private conversations with my family and my friends.'
She said: 'I've really had a great time, but time is one of those weird things, you can never get enough of it, and it just keeps ticking away, and I know that I want to spend more of mine with my husband Richard, and my kids, Ben, Gabe and Lily.'
Her co-host, Matt Lauer, said Ms Vieira was 'universally adored'. He said she had 'brought class and dignity and talent and a joy of life to this show for the last five years, and we will miss you like crazy.'
She joined the Today team in 2006 to replace Ms Couric, who left to anchor CBS News after 15 years on the show.
Transitions are unusual for Today, and Ms Vieira was still the newest member of the team.
In a statement, NBC said: 'Meredith will continue in a new role at NBC News, with an official announcement in the coming months.'
But Ms Vieira did not seem quite so sure. She said: 'I really hope to stay in the NBC family. That is my goal.'
Her replacement, Ms Curry, has worked on the show since 1997 as the newsreader.
She was passed over for the top job when Ms Couric left, but made a name for herself as a globe-trotting reporter.
This morning she said: 'I feel like the high school computer nerd who has just been asked to the prom by the quarterback of the football team.'
Natalie Morales, an anchor for the show's third hour, will take on the vacant role as newsreader, and she will be replaced by Savannah Guthrie.
Last week TMZ reported Ms Couric is close to signing a $20million deal with ABC for a new talk show.

Drop Dead Diva

This week's new DVD releases include the good, the bad and the Elmo.
-"Drop Dead Diva: The Complete Second Season," Grade B: This Lifetime offering continues to be one of television's best-kept secrets.
Brooke Elliott turns in a masterful performance in this series about a superficial beauty who dies and gets sent back to Earth to inhabit the plus-size body of female attorney Jane Bingum (Elliott).
It's avoided being a weekly soap box for weight issues and deals more with affairs of the heart and the courtroom.
Guest stars in the second season include Paula Abdul, Vivica A. Fox, Rosie O'Donnell and Natasha Henstridge.
-"Green Hornet," Grade F: The combination of a hackneyed script, ludicrous casting and the wrong director make this the worst movie in the super hero genre since the 1986 mega turkey "Howard the Duck."
Seth Rogen doesn't have the presence to make him believable as the masked man, and he lacks the charisma to make his bad-boy scenes work. Robert Downey Jr. can get away with playing Tony Stark as a jerk in "Iron Man" because he's got enough charm to make you like him despite his actions. Rogen is no Robert Downey Jr.
Jay Chou's performance is the only good thing about the movie. He's got the charm and skills to make Kato the standout character. Too bad this good performance is like finding a rose growing in a pile of manure.
-"Sesame Street: Elmo's Travel Songs & Games," Grade B: As always, this DVD combines entertainment with education.
Elmo and Abby go to the zoo with Elmo's Dad and to help pass the time, they play travel games featuring the alphabet, counting, shapes and rhyming. There are also tips about why children should buckle up in the car and go to the bathroom before the trip starts.
Also new on DVD this week:
"Dora the Explorer: It's Haircut Day!": Boots gets his first haircut.
"Boy Meets World: The Complete Fifth Season": Ben Savage TV series.
"From Prada to Nada": Two sisters must deal with a very different lifestyle after they lose all their money. Camilla Belle stars.
"Identity": Keeley Hawes and Aidan Gillen star in this British series about an elite police team that investigates identity theft.
"The Super Hero Squad Show Volume 4": Animated adventures of Iron Man, Thor and other Marvel heroes.
"The PJs: Season 1": Animated series from Eddie Murphy.
"According to Jim: The Complete Third Season": Jim Belushi stars in this family comedy.
"The Dilemma": A man (Vince Vaughn) tries to help his best friend (Kevin James) whose wife is cheating on him.
"Penn & Teller: BS! The Complete 8th Season": The pair look at the absurdities of the world.
"Melrose Place: Sixth Season, Volume 1": Heather Locklear stars in this series about young adults who live in a trendy apartment complex.
"Murdoch Mysteries, Season 3": Detective Murdoch uses revolutionary forensic techniques to solve crimes in Victorian-era Toronto.
"Wubbzy Saves The Day": Wubbzy comes to the rescue with special features including a printable growth chart.
"Thoroughbred: Born to Run": A look at Aqueduct Racetrack's eclectic community of grooms.
"40 Odd Years": Features songs from throughout Loudon Wainwright's career.

Lonely Island
The party turns ugly on “After Party,” the Santigold-assisted cut from The Lonely Island’s second album Turtleneck & Chain, in stores Tuesday. After the last bottle of Dom is popped, frontman Andy Samberg asks himself, “What the hell am I doing with my life?” before spiraling out of control with teary-eyed calls to mom and plenty of self-gratification. Santigold joins the pity party, which ends with an epiphany (“You can’t spend your whole life jerking off”) and a relapse. Spare us the invite.

Saturday Night Live

Saturday Night Live
With guest host Tina Fey back playing her famous doppelganger, this weekend’s "Saturday Night Live" portrayed the debate that wasn’t this week – featuring not just Sarah Palin but also would-be White House hopeful Donald Trump.

The faux Fox News debate also pitted Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Michele Bachmann in the “GOP 2012 Undeclared Candidates Debate,” adding 2010 New York governor candidate Jimmy McMillan of the Rent is Too Damn High party for good measure.

The sketch represented one of the first attempts by the comedy show to spoof the 2012 presidential campaign. It followed a real debate Thursday night featuring a B-cast of declared Republican candidates, including former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, Texas Rep. Ron Paul and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.

This second debate was introduced as featuring the “candidates you wish you knew less about.”

Romney, played by Jason Sudeikis, is shown as a bumbling candidate struggling in the spotlight.

“People say a lot of things about Mitt Romney. They say I’m rich and disconnected. They say I’m a dead fish. They say I look like a villain in a Lifetime movie,” he says, before worriedly finishing: “What am I doing?! Why do they let me talk?!”

Bobby Moynihan plays Newt Gingrich, who decides to bow out before even answering a question. Kristen Wiig again portrays Bachmann, the Minnesota congresswoman and "tea party" favorite. She challenges the nation to a staring contest.

Then we come to Palin, happy to be on Fox News Channel which “both pays me and shows me the questions ahead of time.”

“First I want to acknowledge that this week we finally vanquished one of he world’s great villains. And I for one am thrilled to say good riddance to Katie Couric,” Fey as Palin says.

The former Alaska governor claims she’s "bonin' up on experience” by filming a “Hangover 3” cameo in the Middle East, and studying her “Rosetta Stone English.”

“The important thing for people to know is that I’m gonna be runnin’ for president every four years for the rest of my life,” Fey as Palin says. “It’s my Olympics and I intend to win a whole bunch of silvers.”

Former cast member Darrell Hammond returns to play Trump, calling himself a modern-day Citizen Kane. He plugs “Celebrity Apprentice” and turns to Palin to say she can be his running mate in 2012.

“All you have to do is sell more chili than Ne Ne Leakes over the course of a hot summer day in Times Square,” he says, referring to one of the cast members of the reality show this season.

The contest ends with Sheppard Smith congratulating President Obama on his likely re-election.

SNL

There was a sense that, after a few recent not-so-great shows and a month off to recharge (the last new SNL was back on April 9), Saturday Night Live was due for a triumphant return this week — especially with its most heralded recent alum, Tina Fey, hosting the Mother’s Day episode in the same week that Osama bin Laden was killed. And Fey even brought Maya Rudolph along for the ride to help out. So, plenty of material to go around, right? Right?

As it turns out: Sort of. The Bin Laden reaction was, all things considered, fairly weak. And it was odd that Fey would host the show without even appearing on “Weekend Update,” which, obviously, is one of her huge strengths. (Though, as you will see below, “Update” did just fine without her.) Unfortunately, it felt like Fey’s appearance as host became an afterthought — with Michael Bolton as Captain Jack Sparrow and Stefon upstaging Fey’s return — which is a shame because Fey’s last two appearances has host were so memorable. Even Fey’s Sarah Palin impression — which, at least this time around, should have stayed tucked away in the closet — seemed forced in a “Tina’s the host, so we have to do Palin” kind of way. Anyway, off to the Scorecard we go…
Sketch of the Night
“Weekend Update” (Meyers, Sudeikis, Armisen, Bayer, Hader) Bill Hader’s Stefon, of course, is going to get the headlines. Everyone loves Stefon! Hader breaks character! Admittedly, I thought Stefon had a fresher feel to him than the last time we saw him, which was way back in mid February. Put it this way: It actually looked like Hader was genuinely laughing this time as opposed to, let’s say, enhancing his laughter for comedic effect — for what that’s worth. Regardless, everything about “Update” clicked this week: Meyers appears to still be riding high from last week’s performance at the White House Correspondence Dinner, and Sudeikis as the Devil was the best Bin Laden commentary of the evening. The absurdity of Armisen and Bayer as “Gaddafi’s Best Friends Growing Up” was my personal highlight of “Update” because, well, we all know people just like this. It’s too bad the rest of the show didn’t have the energy that “Update” possessed.
The Good
“Digital Short: Jack Sparrow” (Samberg, Taccone, Schaffer, Bolton): “It turns out Michael Bolton is a major cinephile.” Michael Bolton was so good in this that he may have just earned himself top billing in tomorrow’s SNL Relevancy Poll. Good on him for having a sense of humor about himself. Or, if he doesn’t have a sense of humor about himself, the dude really likes Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies (and Erin Brockovich, apparently). This is proof that an OK idea can hit another level by just having a more than willing participant. Where’s the “Michael Bolton should host SNL” Facebook page? I’d “like” that right now.

“Mermaid” (Fey, Thompson, Brittain, Armisen, Bayer, Elliott): “Mermaid” is only up this high in the scorecard because of the brilliant concept: Undersea utopia ruined by Bin Laden’s corpse. The concept alone makes me laugh, as I’m sure it did everyone at the pitch meeting. The execution, on the other hand, was… mildly amusing. Yeah, yeah, there’s a 9/11 truther under the sea. OK, fine, whatever. That’s the problem: once Bin Laden’s body shows up, where do you go with it? ObviouslySNL didn’t know, either.

“Pregnant in Heels” (Elliott, Fey, Wiig, Pharoah, Killam): “I’m not so much a person as I am a collection of choices.” You know, perhaps it’s just the jolt of seeing Abby Elliott and Jay Pharoah featured so prominently, together, in a sketch that shocked me into laughter. Perhaps that’s the key for those two: team up! Become the new Farley and Spade or the new Belushi and Aykroyd. Elliott and Pharoah forever! And nice job by Elliott for nailing Rosie Pope’s “born in England, moved to America, every morning a thousand bees sting my tongue” accent.
“GOP Debate” (Fey, Hammond, Hader, Sudeikis, Thompson, Moynihan, Wiig): I bet Tina Fey hatesplaying Sarah Palin by this point. I bet when this idea was raised at the pitch meeting her first reaction was, “Really, guys? She’s not even in the news right now. I mean, Seth, come on, you didn’t mention her once at the White House Correspondence Dinner. Why are we doing this?” So, yeah, this whole sketch seemed like a contrived way to get Fey in the Palin makeup once again. Then again, it’s always nice to see Darrell Hammond as Donald Trump. But why wasn’t more time set aside to hammer that guy? You know, someone who actually is in the news. (To be fair, Meyers did a pretty great job of doing just that last weekend, so perhaps he felt that was enough.)
“Hallmark Mother’s Day” (Brittain): This ran so late in the evening that it was tacked on after the sketch following the last musical performance — so, yeah, I’m sure Paul Brittain was watching the clock all evening, hoping nothing went too long, because this would have been the first to get cut. Anyway, well, this was weird. Happy Mother’s Day!

Nicki Minaj

This week rap singer Nicki Minaj dropped the video for her song "Super Bass," and it's colorful, to say the least. She sports bright yellow eye shadow, a hot pink leopard-print cat suit, and swims around with hot men in a pink pool of what appears to be a yogurt-like drink. It's a kaleidoscope of color set to the thumping sound of her crooning about the guy who makes her heart go "boom badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom."
She also chills out riding a motorcycle made of ice, and uh ... really rides it. She sports a variety outfits and does indeed, as is often said, look like a real-life Barbie.
The lyrics are silly, but catchy and the video illustrates it perfectly. "He pops bottles and he’s got the right kind of build…. He’s always in the air/ But he never flies coach." Dude in the video has definitely got the right kind of build -- did you see those abs?
Overall, it's hot. She's hot; he's hot. The song is hot ... just in time for summer, and just in time for her upcoming tour with Britney Spears for whom she'll be opening during their Femme Fatale tour.
It's going to a good show, and it will be interesting to see if Minaj outshines Brit Brit. I'd have to give it Minaj if there was a Daisy Dukes rockin' contest, and when it comes to dancing ... I don't know. Nicki has some moves, so I hope Brit's working on hers.
If you want tickets to find out for yourself, you can enter Minaj's "Super Bass" video contest in which fans are asked to post videos of themselves singing part of the song. Five pair of tickets to one of the shows as well as the opportunity to meet Minaj in person are up for grabs. Videos by Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, and this one from Kendall Jenner are offered up as examples for those wanting play.

Haunted 3D Review

In Haunted 3D Mahakshay Chakraborty (son of Mithun Chakraborty) lands up at a haunted bungalow because of a business deal. Gradually he gets to know about a murky story around the bungalow where an innocent girl’s spirit is imprisoned. Rest of the story deals with how the hero saves the girl from the bad guy (ghost).
First half of the movie is very slow; director has spent at least 40 minutes establishing the fear factorand characters. All one see/hear till interval are windows breaking, fusing bulbs, sound of glass shattering, etc. However the movie picks pace post interval and the last 40 minutes are really adventurous when Mahakshay and heroin faces the ghost.
Though not many of you might know about this, but “Haunted 3D” is not the debut film of Mithun’s son, rather it was Jimmy (at that time he was known as Mimoh Chakraborty), however in comparison to his performance in that film, Mahakshay (then Mimoh) have performed really well. But the ordinary script of Haunted has made it look like a regular horror film.
To save the heroin, a hero travels 80 years back in time is an extremely clichéd formula used by Hollywood Science Fiction films in late 70s. However in Haunted Vikram Bhatt (director) doesn’t even take pains to explain so as to how his hero manages to travel in time.
Though Haunted couldn’t convert me in a fan, still if you definitely want to watch it then I would advise you to experience it in 3D only, as things coming out of screen at you would be the only part which you will like most, we at FilmiTadka give it 2 out of five stars.

She also took part in many ad campaigns and had set the ramps on fire on many occasions. The brands that she recommended whilst her scrimp with modeling include Electrolux, Savlon Soap, Maruti, Recova and others.

Kulraj Randhawa started her career with the well-liked TV serial 'Kareena Kareena'. A story about a girl who plays a twin personality role the eponymous 'Kareena Kareena'. The serial was aired on Zee TV and was a channel driver with the loftiest TRP's for that year. After having successfully nailing 2 hundred episodes, she subsequently locomoted on to 'Mannat' her first feature film in Punjabi. Produced by Anuradha Prasad (BAG Films) Kulraj Randhawa played the leading opposite Jimmy Shergill. The film was apprised in North India ( where it released ) and overseas including UK, Canada and USA. 'Mannat' provided a platform for Kulraj to demonstrate her acting skills and was noticed by none apart from Sharma ( 'Apne', 'Gaddar' ) to play the lead role for his upcoming film 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron' which launches Anil Sharma's bros ; Kapil Sharma as an actor and Sunjay Sharma as the debutant director.

Recently she has completed shooting for two Hindi feature films. 'Chintuji' produced by Bobby Bedi and directed by debutant Ranjit Kapoor. Kulraj Randhawa shares the screen with past times heartthrob Rishi Kapoor where she plays the lead female friend together with Priyanshu Chatterjee. The other one, 'Mastang Mama', produced by Nikhil Panchamiya is a roller-coaster giggle movie where she portrays a totally different role opposite Ruslaan Mumtaz. Both these films are schedule to release early 2009.

Tera Mera Ki Rishta is a Punjabi picture, starring Jimmy Shergill and Kulraj Randhawa in the main lead. Rest of the cast includes Anupam Kher, Raj Babbar, Archana Puran Singh, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Binnu Dhillon, Rana Ranbir, Balkaran Brar, Tee Jay Sidhu, Dolly Minhas and Akshita. The flick was released worldwide on tenth Apr 2009 and had earned $108,741 in first two weeks. The film was shot by Spice Cine Vision Studios and was spread by Eros World . The film was stated to be the costliest Punjabi movie ever made and was the 1st Punjabi picture to be shot in Switzerland.

Reviews of her last flick Tera Mera Ki Rishta are as the following, Tera Mera Ki Rishta is hoping to change the image of Punjabi cinema with it's sombre and grown up take on the old romantic formula matching a beautiful, just town girl from Punjab with a spoiled foreign Punjabi guy, or Non-Resident Indian. To the well-worn viewer of Bollywood and Punjabi romantic comedies, the tale of Rajjo ( Kulraj Randhawa ), the daughter of a wealthy landlord, and Meet ( Jimmy Sheirgill ), an ice-hockey playing, motorcyle-riding university student from Vancouver's Punjabi community, may seem like a a hundred flicks they've seen before. But director Navaniat Singh and veteran Bollywood/Punjabi screenplay writer Amrik Gill breathe new life into the old formula by creating clear characters and plausible eventualities, given the constraints of a conventional love story. The beautifully written dialogue is pitch-perfect. Meet and Rajjo reluctantly fall in love when they meet as guests (she is the bride's best mate and he is the bride's Canadian cousin ) at a lengthened marriage party, but the director-writer pair treat their chance showdown to shape out deeper themes of love, relationship, family, and longing, which resonate with earnestness. They have even taken care to mix the comedic ingredients ( which is usually a sequence of comedy skits to damage the sameness of the tale, and often have no relation to the central plot) by making Punjabi comedy king Gurpreet Ghuggi's character a marriage planner who still pines for his lost love. Leads Sheirgill and Randhawa, who previously starred in the commended Punjabi film Mannat, are supreme as lovers who have to manoeuvre family relationships to be together. They are backed by an A-list cast of Bollywood's top veteran actors like Raj Babbar, Anupam Kher, and Archana Puran Singh. Up and coming Punjabi film directors should make Tera Mera Ki Rishta an great refresher course for its firmly knitting structure and just about perfect execution.

Thor Review

"Thor", the first of several superheroes debuting on movie screens this summer, hits U.S. theaters on Friday with out-sized hopes resting on the Norse deity's expansive shoulders.
Hollywood is praying that the God of Thunder and Marvel Comics staple will electrify a dismal 2011 box office, and squeeze more life out of a superhero genre that -- with some of the most iconic characters already established franchises -- is beginning to look tired.
"Thor" might seem an unlikely candidate to resuscitate the North American box office. The founding member of the original Avengers vanquishes his foes with a magical war hammer and the ability to call down thunder and lightning.
But with most of the marquee Marvel and DC Comics pantheon already committed to film, Hollywood is reaching ever deeper into the barrel to fish out new action hero franchises.
The challenge for classically-trained British film director Kenneth Branagh -- more usually associated with Shakespeare -- was to make sure his first venture into the world of the 3D action genre stood above the fray.
"It flips the usual superhero story. It isn't the ordinary man who's bitten by a spider and acquires supernatural powers," Branagh told Reuters in an interview.
"Here we have a superhero with those powers -- a God indeed -- who has to lose everything and engage with our audience," he said.
From the looks of things, "Thor" commands an edge in avoiding me-too status. It boasts Oscar-winning actor Anthony Hopkins, and fellow Oscar winner and fanboy favorite Natalie Portman.
It's also among the first out the gate, beating "Green Lantern", an X-Men prequel and "Captain America" to the punch, and is one of the few originals in a summer movie season packed with sequels like "Fast Five" and "Hangover 2".
"As Marvel said to me when I joined up: 'this is our most difficult property'. There's so many ways for this to go wrong: too kitschy, too campy, too broad comedy, too sci-fi," said Branagh, adding that he relished the challenge of doing a movie so completely out of his comfort zone.
OF SOUND AND FURY
In Branagh's version of the comic classic, the son of Odin, played by beefy Australian newcomer Chris Hemsworth, incurs his father's wrath by rekindling an ancient conflict, is stripped of his powers, and brought literally down to earth. Aided by Portman's scientist Jane Foster, he grapples with a newfound mortality and ultimately wins redemption.
Shot in 3D, the film is packed with pyrotechnics and full-contact violence. But some may question whether Thor -- unlike "Spider-Man" and "Iron Man" before it -- has the mega fanbase to recoup a reported $150 million budget.
Hemsworth is a relative unknown when stacked up against the likes of Christian Bale ("The Dark Knight") or "Iron Man" Robert Downey Jr. His character also speaks in stilted, archaic tones -- a marked contrast to Ryan Reynold's wise-cracking, all-American "Green Lantern".
This year is off to a sputtering start, with 2011 North American ticket sales down 18 percent from the same time last year, at $2.7 billion.
Branagh, who burst into the American consciousness with his 1993 take on Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing", waves off Hollywood's wider concerns.
"I'm immune to the idea of how to second-guess what an audience would spend its money on. I can only come from the position of what I think is right for the story, and sometimes in the past I've got that right, and sometimes I've been wrong," he said.
And he doesn't rule out a second go at it.
"Thor" has already pulled in $93 million after being released in Australia, Britain, France, South Korea, and dozens of other countries, ahead of North America .
But "Fast Five," the fifth entry in the "Fast and the Furious" street-racing franchise, raced to the biggest opening of the year at the North American box office last weekend, with an estimated $83.6 million in ticket sales.
"As thrilled as we are with the way it ('Thor') seems to be going now, it will be a few weeks before we understand the financial and creative fate of the movie. There are a thousand tales to tell. We'll wait and see," Branagh said.

Something Borrowed

This should go without saying, but the novel-turned-movie “Something Borrowed” clinches it: It is not okay to sleep with the fiance of one’s best friend. What’s odd, and ultimately icky, is how enthusiastically the film attempts to justify doing so.
The sporadically comedic romantic drama, based on Emily Giffin’s best-selling chick-lit trifle, focuses on Rachel White (Ginnifer Goodwin), a successful lawyer who offers herself up as the world’s doormat. Unattached and having just turned 30, Rachel is feeling forlorn, which is compounded by the fact her best friend, Darcy (Kate Hudson), is marrying Rachel’s law school crush.
If Darcy has a redeeming quality, it’s not readily evident. She is a shameless attention-seeker who takes advantage of Rachel’s amenability, decorates her apartment with large-scale, semi-nude photos of herself and concludes phone conversations with “kiss-kiss-kiss.” Her favorite topic of conversation is her own beauty.
After a few drinks, Rachel tells Darcy’s fiance, Dexter (Colin Egglesfield), who looks like a composite of Tom Cruise and a Ken doll, about her longstanding infatuation. Before you know it, the two are in bed and Rachel, who has always been a model best friend, is suddenly the Other Woman.
From there, the action shifts between New York and the Hamptons; things continue to intensify between Rachel and Dexter, all while plans for the nuptials continue unabated. As the summer wears on, Dexter becomes increasingly ambivalent about which woman to choose, while Rachel seems to waver between remorse and heartbreak. Meanwhile, there are happy couples everywhere Rachel looks, and her good friend Ethan (John Krasinski) is giving her a hard time for being such a pushover.
The screenwriters are no puppet masters, and pulling a few heartstrings doesn’t force the audience to wish for Rachel and Dexter’s happily ever after. The reason is simple logic: If Darcy is so terrible, why is Rachel her best friend and Dexter her fiance?
Another obstacle that makes it impossible to invest in these characters is that Dexter turns out to be nothing but a weepy weakling. By the time his father makes him cry with a simple rebuke, you may wonder where his initial attractiveness flitted off to.
The movie’s 103 minutes would be wholly unbearable if it weren’t for Krasinski, who is on the scene with his goofy, bulbous nose and perfect comedic timing to partially redeem the almost unwatchable. He steals the show, as he often does, with the help of the script’s best lines. You might question his role choice if he weren’t such a much-needed source of laughs and voice of reason.
But as Krasinski’s scenes get fewer and farther between, straightforward comedy yields to the unintentional variety. During a recent screening, as Rachel and Dexter shared a post-coital moment of gazing into each other’s eyes, snickers spread through the audience like a rollicking brush fire.
A few laughs ultimately give way to the tiresome realization that these three less-than-likable personalities probably deserve one another. It's just a shame anyone has to watch them figure that out.

Luv Ka The End Review

Luv Ka The End
Yash Raj's first attempt at making a self-proclaimed full-blown anti romantic-comedy seems more of a half-hearted attempt at taking the route less-traveled by the banner. The idea seems inspired but the execution isn't much exciting.

Rhea (Shraddha Kapoor), defined as a sweet simple college virgin in the film, is in love with the filthy-richLuv Nanda(Taaha Shah). But Luv is not only cheating on Rhea but also involved in a cyber race of uploading explicit videos of girls and winning brownie points for his exploits. When Rhea realizes this, she soon gets over being a crybaby and decides to get even with Luv.

As its USP, the film tries to work against the cinematic notion that the female form will sit back and sob. The protagonist here is not any abla naari but wants vengeance from the malefactor. While that sounds as an interesting premise, the screenplay by Shenaz Treasuryvala and Roye Segal isn't able to tap the potential that the plot provides. That's because the way in which Rhea and her gang of girls attempt to get even with Luv is kinda conventional and also childish.

You surely expect the girls to do something more imaginative and eventful than adding itching powder in his underwear, purgative powder in his food or ecstasy powder in his drinks. The maximum inventive that the writing gets is in making the guy do a drag-dance or destroying his Jaguar car worth 5 millions. And you surely expected something better in the climax than the girl getting away by using pepper-spray on the guy.

The pacing is quick and, thankfully, the narrative isn't stretched till the interval point to reveal Luv's unfaithful conduct. The rona-dhona is kept minimal and the girls get to work pretty early in the plot. The female bonding is well-established, especially the superficial squabbles between Shraddha's sidekicks. But the malevolence of Luv Nanda never hits you hard enough to make you hate him. Though he's supposed to be the bad guy, his charming ways never lets him come across as a vicious villain.

Rhea's younger sister, who blackmails her at every opportunity she gets, makes for an entertaining side-character. However other interesting side-characters like Rhea's cranky granny or Luv's smuggler dad could have been exploited to better effect. Ali Zafar's cameo in the climax doesn't help much.

In her second outing, Shraddha Kapoor is decent but doesn't rise over the average script. Taaha Shah is charming, natural and has the ability to go places if shown the right direction. Pushtie and Sonia, as Rhea's friends add a lot of zing with their bickering chemistry.

Coming from Bumpy, the director of the Roadies , one expected a lot more meat from the proceedings. But all that you get is mere mutton song. Luv Ka The End appears more like a shallow television episode.
